An Introduction to Intermittent Fasting for Endurance Athletes

I can recall hearing about fasting almost as far back as I can remember, but until recently I was skeptical there was a place for it amongst endurance athletes. You see, I was always that type who would wake up ravenous. If I didn't eat within 30 minutes of getting out of bed my thoughts would be solely focussed on finding food as quickly as possible. I would also experience a similar scenario if I went more than a few hours during the day since my previous meal. For someone who loves food, this was great from the standpoint that I'd get to eat again, but also made me feel like a slave to eating. "Hangry" was an all-to-common state for me.

Under-Fueling: The Ultimate Sandbag

I love trying really freaking hard. I love digging deep, tapping the last reserves, and emptying the tank as I push my limits physically and mentally on the rock. I pursue climbing as a way of life because I enjoy exploring new places, meeting fellow adventure enthusiasts, and playing in the great outdoors. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sport Nutrition at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. My goal is to help athletes use nutrition to maximize their health and performance. Through my studies, I have grown aware of the past inadequacy of my own dietary practices as well as the widespread acceptance of an unhealthy approach to food, diet, and weight throughout the climbing community....
